These puzzles are made for older adults who enjoy word searches but find the tiny type in newsstand books hard to read. Every grid uses a clear sans-serif typeface with bold capital letters, and the word list is printed in large type with a checkbox to tick off each word.
Themes were chosen for familiarity: gardening, the kitchen, backyard birds, the seaside and the 1950s. Familiar words are easier to spot and make good conversation starters in a group.
Where can I print large print word searches for seniors for free?
You can print them free from this page: each puzzle has a "Print this puzzle + answer key" button, and no sign-up is required. They are free for personal, family, classroom, library and care-home use.
What font size is best for seniors with low vision?
Large print guidelines, such as those from the American Council of the Blind, recommend at least 18-point type. Our grid letters print at roughly 18 to 26 points on US Letter paper, and people with more vision loss may prefer our jumbo puzzles.
What makes a word search good for older adults?
Big bold letters, high contrast, familiar themes and words that are not hidden backwards make word searches easier for older adults. The puzzles on this page use all four.
Can I make a large print word search with my own words?
Yes. The free generator on our homepage lets you type any word list, choose the letter size and difficulty, and print it with an answer key.
